This is the home of The Coronation Wreck Project. Please visit us here for news and information about the Coronation and updates on the latest developments and discoveries. The Coronation sank near Plymouth during a violent storm in 1691. She lay undiscovered until 1967 and eventually the site became a designated 'protected wreck'. Our aim is to continue the study of the site and to promote awareness of this nationally important wreck site. We are working closely with English Heritage to help increase and promote licensed access to the site so that everyone can understand and enjoy this Nationally important and protected shipwreck.

We are a group of voluntary divers, working with archaeologists, who are attempting to further the work of those who discovered the wreck and those who have looked after it, protected it and revealed many of its secrets over the years. To them we owe a huge debt of gratitude. However, work and discoveries are far from over yet. If we are truly to understand what happened to the Coronation on that dreadful night of the 3 September 1691, we need to search a wider area and document more of the finds on the seabed.

We strictly enforce a divers 'no take' policy on the Inshore and Offshore sites, no wildlife should be removed from the protected wreck areas. The natural fish and fauna are under regular assessment by 'Seasearch'.

****NEW FOR 2012!****

The Maritime Archaeology Sea Trust (MAST) is proud to announce its launching of a new PADI diving speciality. The two day course is called Underwater Archaeology, a no frills, no fuss introduction to the basics of archaeology underwater with simple recording techniques using little more than a camera and tape measures. The introduction to the basics will also include a lecture on the laws governing divers and underwater archaeology in the UK. Students will hear exciting talks from well known figures in the underwater archaeology world.

After completion they will be entitled to a rare guided tour from the licensee of the 1691 Coronation protected wrecksite off Plymouth.

As PADI Underwater Archaeology specialists you can become the eyes and ears of our underwater heritage.
